Why your business isn't about you
Top 3 Tips for Creating Relevant and Meaningful Content
So, you’ve set up your new website and written yourself a swanky ‘About Me’ section (if you do say so yourself!)
Everything is perfect.
Except… no one is clicking on your website.
Well, maybe a few people did. But one of them was your Mum. And the other visitors only stayed on your site for approximately 8 seconds.
Say, what?
But your website is so good!
What. Have. I. Done. Wrong?
Well, the good news is, it’s not about YOU!
How can that be? Surely people would love to read about how great I am, right?
WRONG!
The truth about quality content is that for your target audience to actually ‘give a toss’, it needs to be about THEM.
Follow our Top Tips for how to turn your content around with our simple-as 3 Step Plan so that your sales will follow suit!
STEP 1: ROADMAP – DO YOU KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE AND THEIR NEEDS?
Getting to know your prospective audience is a must. Without this, you are setting off on a journey without a roadmap!
It may start out fun, but soon enough, you may find yourself at a dead end and certainly at your wits end!
The best way to get to know your target audience is to create personas.
“Personas are fictional, generalized characters that encompass the following aspects among your real and potential customers:
- Needs
- Goals
- Challenges
- Observed behavior patterns
- Education
- Job Title
- Salary
- Demographics
Basically, they help you understand your clients better.
Knowing more about the people who are most likely to want and need what you provide means you are directing your marketing efforts in the right direction.
Phew!
STEP 2: REVIEW – IS YOUR CURRENT CONTENT CLICKABLE?
Check out your last three Facebook posts or the last blog entry on your site.
Has the content yielded ‘likes’? Has anyone commented on your blog?
If your content is more interesting to you than to your clients, you can easily fix this.
STEP 3: RETHINK – HOW CAN YOU RESPOND TO WHAT YOUR CLIENTS CARE ABOUT?
Your product or service provides a solution to your client’s problems, right?
In order to solve the problems, you first need to know what the problems are.
But how do you know what issues your clients or wanna-be clients are having?
Easy!
Try hanging out in the places where your target audience are.
We’re not talking about stalking them on their dry-cleaning run.
Find them where they bring up their concerns online:
Forums – Is there an industry-specific forum that you can join and share your relevant and helpful? Simply type, “forum: yourtopic” into the Google search bar.
Facebook Groups – Join groups that are popluar among your target audience. Look for inspiration about what they are posting.
Twitter – Follow your target audience and look up popular hashtags relevant to your industry.
You can also ask your FB community for ideas about what sort of content they would like.
This generates conversation amongst your followers and positions you as the caring business owner that you are!
